Dad Places Ad Seeking Husband for 'Gorgeous, Godly, Virgin' Daughter
The classified advertisement appeared in the March edition of Christianity Today.

Stephen Stewart placed an advertisement looking for a son-in-law in Wheaton in the March edition of Christianity Today, according to media reports. In the ad, he describes his daughter, Rachel Stewart, as a 26-year-old godly, gorgeous virgin. The dad, who refers to himself as a Chicagoland chief financial officer and church elder, provides the following information on his daughter:
Her: godly, gorgeous, athletic, educated, careered, humorous, traveled, bilingual, 26-year-old virgin.
He also leaves his daughter's blog website, which has since been deleted.
The ad goes on to refer to the applicant as "unworthy, but becoming less so daily" and leaves the dad's e-mail address for those interested in applying.
The daughter said she knew nothing about the ad until a reader of her blog tipped her off to it, according to her blog post. She called her dad to ask him about it and he unapologetically read her the ad.
"I'm not angry or embarrassed. I'm just nervous if this works out, next I'll find my face plastered on a billboard," she said in her blog.
She went so far as to write in her blog that she was impressed with her dad's bold move.
“At least it's appropriate they placed it in the Employment Opportunities section,” she wrote. “Putting up with this father-in-law's shenanigans is a full time job, without any paid vacation.”
The magazine that published the classified advertisement is apologizing and has removed the ad from its online addition. Christianity Today, which is based in Carol Stream, referred to the ad as "demeaning and in poor taste" in a statement released on March 4.
"We want everything in our magazine to reflect beautiful orthodoxy, and this ad did not," Mark Galli, editor in chief at Christianity Today said in the statement. "We have taken a hard look at our ad review process, made some changes, and we can assure our readers that no ad likes this will ever appear again."
