Wheaton Launches 2026 Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program

Residents can choose from a dozen species of trees to enhance their parkways via the shared cost program.

WHEATON, IL — Applications have opened for Wheaton's 2026 Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program. The city plans to help fund the planting of as many as 250 trees, with beneficiaries chosen on a first come, first served basis.

For $120, residents can choose from a dozen species of trees via the shared cost program. The species are listed below.

  • Catalpa
  • Gingko
  • Hackberry
  • Hybrid elm
  • Japanese tree lilac
  • Kentucky coffee tree
  • Linden
  • Pink crabapple
  • Red oak
  • State street maple
  • Swamp white oak
  • White crabapple

Crew members from Wheaton's Forestry Division will begin planting the parkway trees come springtime.
