Wheaton Man Charged With Attempted Home Burglary

WHEATON, IL — A Wheaton man faces multiple charges after police say he was caught trying to burglarize a home in the 100 block of Christina Circle. Jermaine Keith Devon Echoles, 33, of the 1600 block of Valley Forge Court, was charged with attempted residential burglary, possession of burglary tools, and obstructing a peace officer in connection with the early Saturday incident.

According to police, they received a call around 3:30 a.m. Saturday to report an attempted residential burglary at the above location. When police got to the scene, they say Echoles fled on foot. Police eventually caught up with Echoles and took him into custody.

Wheaton Deputy Police Chief P.J. Youker said in a news release, "Our patrol officers did an outstanding job apprehending Mr. Echoles. Wheaton’s residents should feel safe in their homes, and the Wheaton Police Department works around the clock to ensure this occurs."

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement, "Even under these very trying circumstances under which we all find ourselves, law enforcement in DuPage County remains committed to their mission of public safety."

Echoles was being held in DuPage County Jail on $35,000 bond, but posted the necessary amount to be released Sunday. He is set to appear in court again on June 8.
