Wheaton Metra Station Update: Part Of Building To Reopen
City officials expect much of the waiting area to reopen before February.

WHEATON, IL — Two months after the Wheaton Metra station was consumed by an accidental fire, part of the station has been approved to reopen. City officials announced Monday that structural engineers gave the ok to open a portion of the station's waiting area by the end of January.
Crews must clean the interior of the waiting area from fire debris before it can officially be occupied by commuters. Temporary walls will cordon off the remaining areas in need of repair and the station will be equipped with temporary electricity and heating, city officials said in a release.
They added that restrooms "will not be immediately available," but that "crews will work to reopen them as soon as possible."
