Wheaton Municipal Band Launches 2023 Concert Series

WHEATON, IL — The Wheaton Municipal Band is set to kick off its 2023 summer concert season at Memorial Park on June 8.

The band will perform free concerts on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 3.

The schedule for the themed concerts are as follows:

June 8: Music Fit for a King showcases some of the band's most beloved tunes

June 15: Classical Winds features the music of Paul Noble, with a world premiere of his newest piece, an arrangement for Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Solemn Prelude."

June 22: Schneider Conducts will be Dr. Mary Schneider's debut conducting the Wheaton Municipal Band. Schneider works as the Director of Bands at Eastern Michigan University.

June 29: On The Mall features patriotic music, including a tribute to Edwin Franko Goldman's "On the Mall."

July 6: One World, Many Voices features the work of composers Dr. Robert Sheldon and Dr. Thomas Bough.

July 13: During Music from Heartland and Beyond, Dr. Mark Heidel and Dr. Myron Welch from the University of Iowa will showcase their talents.

July 20: Traveling Through Time with Music spotlights different eras of music from the Renaissance until the present day.

July 27: Colburn Conducts features classical and pop tunes under the direction of Col. Michael Colburn, who formerly conducted the United States Marine Band.

Aug. 3: Magical Movie Music lets audience members get swept away with tunes from Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini and other movie greats.

This year marks the 94th season for the Wheaton Municipal Band, which got its start in 1930. Since then, the band has grown exponentially and performed throughout the U.S., including a show at Chicago's Petrillo Music Shell.
