Park District Asking Public to Provide More Creative Name for Athletic Facility

The park district decided that Central Athletic Center is not too exciting and is looking for a better name.

The Wheaton Park DIstrict is looking for the public’s help in renaming Central Athletic Center.

The park district launched the contest with the hopes of giving the historic building, at 500 S. Naperville Road, a more creative name, according to the Daily Herald.

The building, which dates back to the 1920s, housed Hubble Middle School from 1992 to 2006, the Daily Herald reports.

“We are seeking name ideas that capture the excitement and tradition that this iconic building exemplifies in our community,” according to the Wheaton Park District contest flier.

The park district bought the building for $3.25 million and turned it into an athletic facility in 2012. The facility includes basketball courts, volleyball courts, batting cages, and indoor baseball, soccer and lacrosse training area with synthetic turf and a conference room.

New multi-purpose (soccer, football and lacrosse) fields are to be completed at the facility this fall and three baseball/softball fields and a jogging path will be added next spring. in Fall 2015 and three baseball/softball fields and jogging path to be complete in Spring 2016.

The winner of the naming contest will receive a family pool pass, unlimited mini golf and a family fitness membership for one season. Voting will be open through June 29.
