WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those recently arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 2900 block of Old Glenview Road and stole 12 fishing poles between 5 p.m. on July 23 and 10 a.m. on July 24.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO MOTOR VEHICLE

Police were told that someone damaged a tire on a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Green Bay Road between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 19.

DEATH INVESTIGATION

Wilmette Police and Fire personnel responded to a train crossing at Central Street and Green Bay Road at 7:55 a.m. on July 26 where an 82-year-old Wilmette woman was struck and killed by a southbound express Metra train.

THEFT

Someone stole a wallet from a Wilmette resident at some point during a train ride from Chicago to Wilmette between 5:30 p.m. and 6:41 p.m. on July 27, police were told.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Someone spray-painted a cross on the sidewalk at 13th Street and Greenwood Avenue at 12:21 p.m. The cross was about 12 inches by 12 inches in size, according to police.

THEFT

Someone cut a lock and stole a gray Trek bicycle from a rack outside the CTA station at in the 300 block of Linden on July 26 between 11 a.m. and 7:45 p.m.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone opened four department store credit accounts using the personal information of a resident of the 1200 block of Ridge Road and charged about $4,500 in merchandise around 10:47 p.m. on July 26.

THEFT OF LOST PROPERTY

A patron at Gillson Park reported leaving a bag on the ground while loading a vehicle before leaving the park between 6 p.m. and 7:08 p.m. on July 29. When the patron returned, the bag — containing $100 in cash, a wallet, an ID and credit cards — was gone.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone opened up a Walmart MasterCard account using the personal information of a resident of the 1000 block of Linden Avenue around 2:21 p.m. on July 29. There was no immediate reported loss.

BURGLARY

Someone entered the lobby of a building in the 600 block of 11th Street between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 29 and stole a resident's yellow Simple Fat Tire brand bicycle.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 69-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 8:21 p.m. on July 26 and charged with driving with a suspended license after being pulled over for a traffic violation in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue. He was taken into custody, transported to the Station, processed and released on bond. His vehicle was towed.
