2 Injured After Semi-Trailer Spills Steel Beams On Edens Expressway

According to the Wilmette Police Department, the semi-trailer struck a bridge over I-94 Thursday evening.

WILMETTE, IL — Two people were hospitalized in unknown condition after a semi-trailer hit a bridge and spilled steel beams on the Edens Expressway near Wilmette on Thursday.

According to the Wilmette Police Department, the truck was traveling south on the expressway when it hit a girder on the underside of the bridge at Lake Avenue at approximately 5:20 p.m. The truck was carrying a load of steel beams, which partly spilled onto traffic, damaging multiple cars.

Two people were injured in the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

At the time of the incident, Lake Avenue was shut down in both directions between Laramie Avenue and Skokie Boulevard, according to Wilmette police.

The Illinois Department of Transportation inspected the bridge before reopening it to traffic.
