76-Year-Old Catches Garage Burglar In The Act: Police
Wilmette officers soon found the 57-year-old hiding in a nearby yard.

WILMETTE, IL — A Chicago man was caught stealing a bicycle from a Wilmette garage Wednesday. Around 2 p.m., a 76-year-old resident of the 600 block of Laramie Avenue noticed a man standing outside of his garage with a stolen bicycle, according to police. After a brief chase, the man was arrested.
Russell A. Boykin, 57, of the 4100 block of West Cornelia Way in Chicago, was arrested on July 18 and charged with burglary. Police said he was seen standing outside a detached garage with the resident's bicycle that had been hanging inside moments earlier. The resident confronted Boykin and chased him south on Laramie Avenue before losing sight of him near the corner of Wilmette and Laramie avenues.
Boykin was found moments later hiding in a yard in the 3400 block of Wilmette Avenue, according to police. He was held overnight on July 18 for bond court and has remained jailed ever since July 19, according to Cook County sheriff's office records.

Boykin has been arrested at least three times in Chicago this year. He was charged with domestic battery, violation of an order of protection and, most recently aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on May 13.

As of July 20, he remained held at Cook County Jail in lieu of the $2,000 cash portion of his bail ahead of an Aug. 8 court date.
