ATM Skimmer Found; Road Rage Battery; DUI Rollover: Blotter

Wilmette Police Blotter: March 18 - April 2

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 1700 block of Forest Avenue reported on March 17 that someone had used their personal information to open a Verizon account.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
An Old Glenview Road resident reported on March 17 that they had posted a piece of furniture for sale on Craigslist for $600. Someone contacted them claiming to be interested and sent a check for $1,600, and asked the resident to cash the check to purportedly pay the delivery driver. The check, which was not cashed, turned out to be fake.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Ridge Avenue resident reported on March 22 that someone had used his personal information to apply for credit using a Las Vegas, Nevada address. Police contacted the collection agency and removed the man from the account.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 600 block of LeClaire Avenue reported on March 23 that someone broke into their home between 7:50 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. that night by prying open a door. Multiple rooms appeared to have been ransacked but nothing was immediately reported missing.

ATM SKIMMER
Staff at the Walgreens in the 800 block of Green Bay Road reported finding a device to steal card numbers on an on ATM in the store on the morning of March 23. It was believed to have been placed on the machine sometime after March 20.

THEFT
A resident of the 3200 block of Wilmette Avenue reported someone stole a package containing nurse's shoes from their front doorstep shortly after 4:30 p.m. on March 23.

THEFT
Someone stole a purse out of an unattended bag at the Panera Bread around 10:30 a.m. on March 24. Later in the day, the Panera patron was informed someone had tried to use their credit card, checked the bag and discovered the purse was stolen.

THEFT
A resident of the 1000 block of Romona Road reported on March 17 that sometime between Mach 16 and 25 someone had stolen jewelry from their home.

BURGLARY
Davontay Thomas, 20, of the 1700 block of East 68th Street in Chicago, was charged with one count of burglary, one count of attempting to disarm a police officer and two counts of aggravated battery following a series of incidents in the early morning hours of March 28.

FRAUD
An employee at a coffee shop in the 1100 block of Central Avenue reported mistakenly accepting a counterfeit $20 bill at some point between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on March 24.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Highland Avenue resident reported that someone used his personal information to try to get a loan and open numerous credit card and phone accounts between March 18 and March 27.

THEFT
A resident of the 2000 block of Birchwood Avenue reported on April 1 that someone sole a hockey net that had been placed near their garage.

FRAUD
A Crestview Lane resident reported that someone had tried to withdraw $39,000 from their bank account on March 27, but the account was frozen and there was no loss.

ARRESTS

A 28-year-old Dolton man was arrested at 12:47 a.m. on March 20 near the intersection of the Edens Expressway and Dundee Road and charged with driving with a revoked driver's license after he was pulled over for speeding by a Wilmette cop on the highway looking for a theft from another jurisdiction.

James Campbell, 57, of the 900 block of Echo Lane in Glenview, was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. on March 21 and charged with battery after police were called to the area of Central and Park avenue for a report of a possible traffic crash and battery. Police were told Campbell punched a man in the eye following a road rage incident. It allegedly began when the man yelled at him for tailgating.

A 23-year-old Long Grove woman was arrested at 7:15 p.m. on March 22 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard.

Adam Allen Brozer, 42, of the 1400 block of Lehigh Avenue in Glenview, was arrested in the early morning hours of March 25 and charged with driving under the influence. Police were called to a one-car rollover crash at Hibbard Road and Central Avenue around 12:47 a.m. They found Brozer with minor injuries and learned he had just driven off the road and flipped his car over onto the parkway in the 500 block of Hibbard Road.

A 25-year-old Kenilworth man was arrested shortly after 11:15 a.m. on March 25 in the 400 block of Green Bay Road after he was pulled over for having expired plates and found to also have a suspended license.

Panagiotis K. Giannos, 26, of the 600 block of Patricia Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested on March 29 and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop around 3:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue. An officer pulled him over for a minor traffic violation and suspected he was impaired, and he refused blood and urine tests.

Bobby Hayes, 64, of the 500 block of Seegers Road in Des Plaines, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on the night of March 31. Police pulled him over around 9:53 for traffic violations and took him into custody for DUI before he agreed to a breath test that showed him to have blood alcohol concentration of 0.185.
