UPDATED: ComEd Says 90% of Lost Power Restored by Friday

Roughly 137,000 of ComEd's customers still without power reside in the North Chicago Suburbs.

As Wilmette works through the aftermath of Tuesday's storms, ComEd has told the village 90 percent of the power outages will be repaired by Friday.

, Village Manager Tim Frenzer told Patch earlier Wednesday. Approximately 189,000 customers remained powerless as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, with 137,000 of those customers residing in the company's Northern Region, ComEd Spokesperson Alicia Zatkowski told Patch. And while ComEd is prioritizing downed electrical lines, some businesses and homes could see power restored by Thursday, according to a news alert released Wednesday afternoon from the village.

"ComEd has been dispatching assessment crews throughout the day in Wilmette to determine the extent of the damage and estbalish work orders to perform needed repairs," the alert indicates.

Officials have been in "continuous contact" with the power company to assess damage and repair progress.

More than 700 ComEd employees are working to restore power, Zatkowski said, adding that more than 400,000 customers had lost power because of the storms.

Meanwhile the village continues to ask residents to report downed power lines or treees on power lines to 9-1-1, while debris that obstructs public right-of-way should be brought to the attention of the Public Works Department at 847-853-7500.
