Cops Could Smell Pot When Pulling Over Car Filled with Teens

Late night stop on Central Ave. reveals what police believe to be marijuana.

WILMETTE, IL - Police in Wilmette issued citations to five teenage boys from the North Shore late Sunday night after a traffic stop at Poplar and Central Ave. turned up a small amount of marijuana.

Around 11:30 p.m., an officer stopped the car for a code violation and “upon approach at the vehicle the smell of cannabis was emanating from the vehicle,” according to a police report.

When searching the car - which was occupied by two teens from Lake Forest, two from Evanston and one from Wilmette - police found two grams of what they believe is marijuana and drug paraphernalia as well.

The teens were released at the scene and the vehicle was returned to a parent.
