For its fifth in a series of community fine arts events, the District 39 Educational Foundation's Sam Mikaelian Fine Arts Fund is sponsoring the 'Wilmette Does Shakespeare' Festival in October and November. The event will be highlighted with performances, movies, readings, and guerrilla theatre activities featuring the work of William Shakespeare, presented in partnership with the Wilmette Public Library and the Wilmette Theatre.
On Sunday, November 6, the Foundation will cap off the festival with a free live production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" performed by Oak Brook-based First Folio Theatre.
Shakespeare's most popular comedy has delighted audiences for centuries. Now your kids can laugh at Puck, Oberon, Bottom, and all the rest as they try to sort out their love-torn lives. And when the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe is presented, your kids will discover why the Bard still keeps people laughing! Equity company First Folio will perform the show, with some help from audience volunteers. Before the show, attendees will see some of the student work from WJHS Shakespeare Day and may get a surprise performance from D39’s own Shakespeareans.
