Blair Kamin will present his new book, "Terror and Wonder: Architecture in a Tumultuous Age" at the Wilmette Historical Society's Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, however, tickets are required as seating is limited. A limit of two tickets per person may be picked up in advance at the Museum, 609 Ridge Road, starting Monday, January 10th.
Wilmette resident and longtime Chicago Tribune columnist Blair Kamin is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for criticism. Following a brief Historical Society general meeting, Mr. Kamin will give an illustrated talk about his new book, Terror and Wonder, which gathers the best of his writings from the past decade and adds new reflections on an era framed by the destruction of the World Trade Center and the opening of the world's tallest skyscraper. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.
Terror and Wonder addresses architecture's evolution since 2001: the devastation of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina; the real estate boom and bust; new challenges in saving old buildings; the rise of green architecture; and growing concern over our nation's crumbling infrastructure.
