Chicagoan O.C. Simonds was a leader in the naturalistic
landscape movement. As early as the 1880s, Simonds began to use native Illinois plants—perhaps one of his most important legacies to us. He shaped Graceland Cemetery’s landscape, designed the Fort Sheridan grounds and created plans for the University of Chicago campus. Local author Barbara Geiger, in the first comprehensive biography of Simonds, summarizes his design philosophy and introduces the significant projects that shaped his life and career. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
