Ex-Babysitter Returns To Steal Drugs And Liquor, Cops Say: Wilmette Crime

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those recently arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. BURGLARY

Prescription pills were stolen from a first floor medicine cabinet of a home on the 2000 block of Thornwood Avenue around 1:10 a.m. on June 12.

THEFT

A rusty, light blue Windsor Wellington 10-speed bicycle with Gator skin tired and orange lettering was stolen, along with its lock, from a CTA bike rack near the bank at 4th Street and Linden Avenue sometime between 7:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. on June 12.

BURGLARY

Someone threw an air compressor and stole 10 bundles of copper pipe from the construction site in the 600 block of Green Bay Road sometime between 3:30 p.m. on June 7 and 6 a.m. on June 8, police were told.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone tried to open up an account with Simple Bank in Portland, Oregon using the personal information of a resident of the 3100 block of Walden Lane on June 12.

THEFT

A resident of the 300 block of 17th Street reported that her 90-year-old father's $2,5000 gold watch was missing after she fired his caretaker. The resident told police the watch went missing between June 7 and June 13.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

Someone stole about $4,700 worth of camping gear and clothing from an unlocked vehicle on the 200 block of 16th Street between 11 p.m. on June 7 and 7:30 a.m. on June 8.

THEFT

About $16,000 in jewelry was reported missing by a resident of the 200 block of Pin Oak Drive on June 12 shortly after a cleaning crew left the residence between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

Someone stole about $20 in cash and a GE fetal monitor from an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of Washington Avenue between 9 p.m. on June 15 and 7:45 a.m. on June 16.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles and took out the contents of their glove compartments and center consoles on the 300 block of Central Avenue between 10:20 p.m. on June 15 and 9 a.m. on June 16. There was no immediate loss reported.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO AUTO

Someone damaged the right front tire of a vehicle that was parked at Elmwood Avenue and Green Bay Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 16.

ARRESTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Samuel Simcox, 24, of the 2900 block of North Sheffield Avenue in Chicago, was arrested June 14 in connection with a residential burglary that occurred June 12 around 1:10 a.m. Police said an investigation found that Simcox had stolen prescription medication and a bottle of tequila from a home on the 2000 block of Thornwood. He was a former babysitter for the resident, police said. He was charged with felony residential burglary and criminal trespass to a residence.

TRAFFIC ARREST

A 24-year-old Chicago woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license at 10:45 p.m. on June 14 after she was stopped for a violation in the 1900 block of Lake Avenue. She was taken into custody, processed and released on bond, while her car was towed.
