Fire Damages Woman's Club of Wilmette

Area fire departments are working on putting out a substantial structure fire at the Woman’s cLub of WIlmette, 930 Greenleaf Ave.

The Wilmette Fire Separtment first arrived at 9:44 a.m., three minutes before the fire was upgraded to a confirmed structure fire. The were no injuries and the lone person in the building was escorted out safely.

Crews encountered heavy smoke and fire on the second floor and flames through the roof. Due to the large amount of fire, truss construction and heavy HVAC equipment on the roof crews were directed to exit the structure and take a defensive posture.

At 10:37 a.m., the fire was again upgraded to a Box Alarm which brought in crews from several neighboring towns to assist. All crews remain on the scene and continue to work as of 12:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under invetigation.
