Group Formed in Opposition to Wilmette's Lakefront Master Plan
Members of 'Save Wilmette Beaches' gather to discuss concerns regarding referendums.

Save Wilmette Beaches, a group opposed to the Wilmette Park District’s proposed lakefront master plan, hosted a meeting at a Wilmette residence recently where those in agreement against the plan shared their concerns, the Daily North Shore reports.
According to the DNS article, the group “opposes any development on Langdon Beach and feels that the proposed Gillson beach house is over-sized and lacks architectural integrity. “
Wilmette resident Elissa Morgante questioned “the need to create a place for people to rent,” in reference to the plan to renovate and expand the Lakeview Center.

“[The lakefront] should be protected and open for everybody,” added Karen Dexter Rolison. “Wilmette is a gem. Nobody else has what we have.”
What’s known as the Gillson referendum proposes a new beach facility. A similar initiative at Langdon Beach would include new restroom facilities and park office staff.
