PEER Services is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. PEER Services provides community-based substance use prevention and treatment services to teens, adults and families in Northern Cook County, including Evanston, Maine, New Trier, Niles and Northfield Townships, and the north side of Chicago. PEER Services reduces the harms of substance use, addiction and stigma by engaging youth and adults with innovative prevention programming and by supporting people on their path to recovery through holistic, evidence-based treatment. We provide affirming services to all in need, regardless of their ability to pay. All Things Bright and Beautiful is a ministry of Church of the Holy Comforter, an Episcopal church located just blocks from Lake Michigan. A call of a possible boat on fire on Lake Michigan in Wilmette resulted in a citation for a village resident for allegedly piling dead Christmas trees on a pallet, lighting the stack and floating the creation offshore. According to Wilmette police, Randolph Kretchmar, 63 was hosting a number of guests around 8:48 p.m. on August 1 when he set the fiery creation offshore. After a call was placed to police, a response by the Coast Guard, Wilmette police and Wilmette fire ensued.

The State of American Democracy

Course times: Tuesday evenings, 6-8 p.m.

Two College-wide lectures are associated with this series: <a href="https://advancement.lakeforest.edu/register/WorldNeedsLeaders" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">“The World Needs Leaders” with former U.S. Ambassador Jeff Flake</a> on September 23 and <a href="https://advancement.lakeforest.edu/register/?id=8935bb79-f62f-4326-bd92-0c1a4c32f0c4" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">“MLK and the Voting Rights Act” with Pulitzer Prize winning author Jonathan Eig</a> on September 28. All course participants are invited to attend as part of this series.
Held at the newly renovated Glen Rowan House, this series explores both the constraints on democracy—such as recent democratic backsliding, the Constitution’s roadblocks on majority rule, and the weakening of voting rights to name a few—and strategies to overcome them and enhance democracy in America. Each week will highlight a new topic and the opening and closing sessions will begin with a social reception featuring food and refreshments prior to class.
Both the educational content and social receptions will offer opportunities to build community, engage with College leadership, and learn more about ongoing campus initiatives.

Explore the history of Renaissance architecture and art—join Lake Forest College professors Dr. Melissa Rovner and Dr. Kimiko Matsumura for this exciting new community engagement series

Held at the historic Krebs Center for the Humanities, this series will explore the traditions of Renaissance form, ornament, spatial organization, material culture, and visual symbolism that shaped how buildings and objects were made, inhabited, and interpreted. Along the way, participants will apply what they have learned directly to the Krebs Center and its collection, asking how the villa itself accumulates meaning, displays taste, and shapes our encounters with history. Each session will begin with a social reception featuring food and refreshments.
