Museum and Police Open Houses on Sunday, May 1st from 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The Wilmette Historical Museum and the Wilmette Police Department will jointly host a family-friendly Open House.
Visitors are invited to step inside the Museum's historic 1896 building for self-guided tours, a game of "Museum Bingo," and a free cookie. Popular exhibits will be open, including an original Gross Point Village Hall jail cell and "The Sixties" exhibit which features many of the memorable sights and sounds of this turbulent decade both nationally and here on the North Shore. The Wilmette Community Band will be playing from 12 - 1 p.m. followed by a pickle roll on the Museum lawn to celebrate Wilmette's early pickle industry started in 1857 by Wilmette's first Village President, John G. Westerfield.
Visitors to the Police Department will receive a tour of police facilities including the lock-up and firearms range. Free hot dogs will be served again this year, sponsored by the Wilmette Optimist Club. Visitors should bring their own cameras for children's "mug shots." Special guests will include the U.S. Coast Guard, a canine unit and more.
