New Trier HS District 203 Board Approves 3-Year Deal With Teachers

The new contract allows the district and faculty to renegotiate the agreement in case of trouble in Springfield.

Teachers for New Trier High School District 203 have a new three-year contract after the board approved the agreement Monday, according to a district release.

The new contract includes an increase in teachers’ base salaries by 1.05 percent in 2016-17 and 1.2 percent in 2017-2018. The final contract increase will equal the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for the year ending Dec. 31, 2016, and will be no lower than 1 percent and no higher than 3 percent.

District health benefits will decrease under the new agreement with the elimination of the highest-cost insurance plan in the contract's second year.

Teachers and the district also can renegotiate the salary portion of the contract for the second or third year in response to state financial troubles, such as a property tax freeze, pension cost shift or other unexpected economic difficulty.

“We are confident that this contract will both keep District 203 financially healthy in the coming years and help us attract and retain the outstanding education professionals that are a hallmark of New Trier’s national reputation for excellence,” Board of Education President Greg Robitaille and New Trier Education Association President Spiro Bolos said in a joint statement in the release.
