North Shore Triathlon 2018: Register Or Volunteer

Here's all the information you need on the sixth annual North Shore Triathlon.

WILMETTE, IL — The North Shore Triathlon and is going to be especially packed this year, and it's time to register. If you feel like you'll be in the mood on Sunday to swim, bike and run, look no further.

Triathletes will meet up at Gillson Park in Wilmette with the first wave kicking off at 6:45 a.m. In the "Sprint" version, triathletes will swim 500 meters in Lake Michigan, bike 20 kilometers through Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka, then run a 5k with views of the world-renowned Baha'i Temple.

There will also be the "SuperSprint" triathlon, with all of the events half distance. The main website, linked below, offers maps of all of the courses.

There's no official end time for the race, but the roads will reopen to the public at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will remain on the route to ensure triathletes are safe and sound, but on the sidewalks instead of the roads.

There were more registrants than expected for this tough event, so only the first 450 to pick up their packets at Precision Multisport will get their T-shirts before the race. They'll have the rest ready shortly after the race, the event's website says.

Early registration is over, so the Spring will costs $130. The SuperSprint will cost $95, and $160 for both. The relay will be $70 per person.

Triathlon Transition Area and Swim Closures

  • Gillson Park will be closed to all public vehicle and bike traffic from 9:00 PM on Saturday, September 15th to approximately 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 16th. This will allow for the set up of the transition area, start and finish lines, staging of equipment and the event.
  • Gillson Beach will be closed due to the current construction project.
  • The intersection of Washington Avenue and Michigan Avenue will also be closed from 6:00 AM to approximately 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 16th.

Bike Course Road Closures in Winnetka, Kenilworth and Wilmette

  • Sheridan Rd Local Traffic Only between Cherry St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka and between Linden Ave and Isabella St in Wilmette.
  • Sheridan Rd Local Northbound Traffic Only between the intersection of Sheridan Rd & the north end (1100 block) of Michigan Ave in Wilmette to the intersection of Sheridan Rd & Winnetka Ave in Winnetka.
  • Sheridan Road to ALL MOTOR VEHICLE and BICYCLE traffic between Winnetka Ave, in Winnetka & Kenilworth to Linden Ave, in Wilmette, except for the above one-way northbound local only traffic lane
  • Wilson St in Winnetka between Ash St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka
  • Winnetka Ave between Green Bay Rd, in Winnetka and Sheridan Rd in Kenilworth
  • Washington Ave will be closed between Sheridan Rd and Michigan Ave.
  • Michigan Ave between Lake Ave and Sheridan Rd in Wilmette (700-800 block)

  • Central Ave between Sheridan Rd and 4th St & between 10th St and 11th St 4th St between Central Ave and Greenleaf Ave
  • Greenleaf Ave between 4th St and 11th St
