North Shore Triathlon Streets Closures in Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka

Close to 600 triathletes will be taking part in the event Sunday.

WILMETTE-KENILWORTH, IL - From the Wilmette Police Department: The 5th Annual North Shore Triathlon, hosted by Precision Multisport and the Wilmette Park District, will take place on Sunday, September 17th, 2017 on the east side of Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka. North Shore Sprint Triathlon consists of a 500 meter swim; a 20 kilometer bike ride and a 5 kilometer run and the North Shore Super Sprint consists of a 250 meter swim; a 10 kilometer bike ride and a 2.5 kilometer run. In order to safely hold the North Shore Triathlon; Gillson Park will be closed to vehicle traffic at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 16th, 2017. Several streets will be closed at 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 17th, 2017. Gillson Park and closed streets will be re-opened at approximately 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 17th, 2017. A detour has been set up for Sheridan Road at Cherry St in Winnetka and at Isabella St in Wilmette. There will be a one-way northbound local only traffic lane on Sheridan Road. This will be from the north end of Michigan Avenue in Wilmette to the intersection of Winnetka Ave & Sheridan Rd, in Winnetka. Residents along the bike course and run course have been given parking permission for legal parking spaces on streets not affected by the triathlon.

  • Gillson Park will be closed to all public vehicle and bike traffic from 3:00 PM on Saturday,
    September 16 th to approximately 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 17th . This will allow for the set up of the transition area, start and finish lines, staging of equipment and the event.
  • Gillson Beach will be closed to all public vehicle and bike traffic from 9:00 PM on
    Saturday, September 16th. Gillson Beach will be open at approximately 4:00 AM on Sunday, September 17th, for ONLY triathletes and staff. It will open to the public at approximately 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 17th .
  • The intersection of Washington Avenue and Michigan Avenue will also be closed from
    6:00 AM to approximately 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 17th .

Bike Course Road Closures in Winnetka, Kenilworth and Wilmette

  • Sheridan Rd Local Traffic Only between Cherry St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka and
    between Linden Ave and Isabella St in Wilmette.
  • Sheridan Rd Local Northbound Traffic Only between the intersection of Sheridan Rd &
    the north end (1100 block) of Michigan Ave in Wilmette to the intersection of Sheridan Rd & Winnetka Ave in Winnetka.
  • Sheridan Road to ALL MOTOR VEHICLE and BICYCLE traffic between Winnetka
    Ave, in Winnetka & Kenilworth to Linden Ave, in Wilmette, except for the above one-way northbound local only traffic lane
  • Wilson St in Winnetka between Ash St and Winnetka Ave in Winnetka
  • Winnetka Ave between Green Bay Rd, in Winnetka and Sheridan Rd in Kenilworth
  • Washington Ave will be closed between Sheridan Rd and Michigan Ave.
  • Michigan Ave between Lake Ave and Sheridan Rd in Wilmette (700-800 block)
