Obituary: Alice "Pat" Wassmann nee Cooney

Alice “Pat” Wassmann nee Cooney of Wilmette, IL. Beloved wife of Lute Wassmann; loving mother of Mary (Rick) Pautler, Annie Wassmann (Tom Edward), Dan (Kathy) Wassmann, Sue (the late John) Panno and Sally (Richard) Baylaender; dear grandmother of Allison, Andrew (Lindsey) and Maggie Pautler, Elizabeth, Emily and Peter Wassmann, Michael, Paul, Mark (Courtney) Panno and Christopher Baylaender; great grandmother of Hannah and Campbell Pautler and Benjamin Panno; dear sister of James Cooney, Tom (Mary) Cooney, Dan (Gene) Cooney, Marion Hanna and the late Marcella Barbour, Rosemary Sauer, William Cooney and Leonard Wassmann.

Her greatest delight was her faith, her husband, Lute, and the family they were blessed to have. She gave her life selflessly as a homemaker, parent volunteer at her children’s schools, hospice volunteer and an Eucharistic minister for Saint Francis Xavier Church. She loved exercising with her husband and reading.

Lifelong learning was always her pursuit.

Pat was a 1944 graduate of Saint Agnes Grade School and a 1948 graduate of Bloom Township High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University in 1952 and a Masters of Education in 1983 from National College of Education. Pat was a longtime teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. In 1995-96, Pat was the recipient of the “Teacher of the Year” of Region 2 in the Chicago Public Schools.

Visitation Wednesday, December 30, 2015, 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 9th and Linden, Wilmette, IL 60091.
