Planners Nix 7-Story Building in Wilmette

3-3 vote by Wilmette Plan Commission means they will not recommend plans for 600 block of Green Bay Road.

A proposal for a 7-story luxury apartment building to be constructed at a former car dealership site in the 600 block of Green Bay Road in Wilmette will not be recommended by the village’s plan commission.

A 3-3 vote last week means a negative recommendation will be submitted to the Village Board, the Daily North Shore reports.

A plan by M & R Development LLC was to feature 95 apartments on the building’s upper floors, with retail space and parking to be open on the first level.

The size and scale of the project, according to the DNS, was the deal breaker. A current zoning code indicates five-story or higher buildings need to be no more than 65 feet.
