Property Owners May Now Appeal 2018 Assessments
Board of Review Commissioner Mike Cabonargi will hold a property tax seminar at 6:00 p.m. on August 9, 2018, at the Wilmette Library

The Cook County Board of Review is now accepting appeals of the 2018 assessed values of New Trier Township properties. Board of Review Commissioner Mike Cabonargi will hold a property tax seminar for property owners at 6:00 p.m. on August 9, 2018, at the Wilmette Public Library, 1242 Wilmette Ave. The deadline to file an appeal to the Board of Review is August 30, 2018.
Jan Churchwell, New Trier Township Assessor, said, “Sadly, homeowners have little direct input into the real estate tax process; however, you not only have the right to appeal your assessed value, you are encouraged by Cook County (and by us) to do so. It is the best opportunity you have to affect the amount of taxes that will be levied against your property.” Ms. Churchwell also said, “The office of New Trier Township Assessor is here to assist homeowners who wish to appeal the assessed value of their properties." Deputy Assessor Len Shifflett and Assessor Churchwell can provide information about comparable properties and otherwise assist with preparation of an appeal; including help with the Board of Review’s on-line filing system. The Assessor's Office is located at 739 Elm Street in Winnetka, and our phone number is 847-446-8200.
The Assessor's Office can be reached via email at jchurchwell@newtriertownship.com or lshifflett@newtriertownship.com. Office hours are 9:00 to 12:30 and 1:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday. During Appeal “Windows” the township is also offering extra opportunities for people who can’t get in during regular business hours. This Assessor's Office will be open until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 23, as well as Saturday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
