Road Work Starts On Route 41 In Wilmette

Traffic will shift to accommodate the work zone later this month.

WILMETTE-KENILWORTH, IL - From the Illinois Department of Transportation: The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that an intersection improvement project at U.S. 41 (Skokie Road) and Hibbard Road in Wilmette will begin, weather permitting, Wednesday, Aug. 9.

The project consists of widening and resurfacing the intersection, as well as modernizing traffic signals. In order to complete the work, lane closures will be necessary.

In late August, U.S. 41 traffic will shift between Lake and Wilmette avenues to accommodate the work zone. Hibbard Road will be open to southbound traffic only, with a detour posted for northbound traffic. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

The estimated completion date is early December.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
