Ruse Burglars Strike; Park Lot Break-Ins: Wilmette Crime Reports

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and can be dropped or reduced. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

RUSE BURGLARY

Police were called to the 600 block of Leclaire Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 for a report of a burglary that had just taken place. Police were told a Hispanic man who knocked on the front door claimed to be working on the neighbor’s water and needed access to the basement. As the unidentified man went down to the basement with the purported worker, another person is believed to have broke into a bedroom and stole $75 in cash.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at the Jewel-Osco in the 400 block of Green Bay Road reported at 3:12 p.m. on Jan. 26 that two people, described as black men, stole about $828 worth of champagne and fled the area in a newer-model black BMW535i driven by a third person.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of the Jewel-Osco in the 400 block of Green Bay Road reported around on Jan. 27 that an person, described as a white man in his 20s, stole several over the counter medications for allergy and weight loss around 3 p.m.

BICYCLE THEFT

Someone stole a seven-speed Raleigh hybrid bicycle between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m on Jan. 27 from the 800 block of Ridge Road.

CAR BURGLARY

Someone broke into a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Poplar Drive between 4 and 7 p.m. on Jan. 31, police were told. A purse was stolen, containing a wallet, credit cards and cash, and there was no indication of forced entry.

CAR BURGLARIES

Two visitor to Centennial Park in the 2300 block of Old Glenview Road reported car break-ins on the night of Feb. 1. In both cases, someone smashed a window and grabbed a bag from inside vehicles. The first incident was reported to ahve taken place between 8 and 8:30 p.m. while the second occurred between 8:05 and 10:05 p.m., police were told.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 31-year-old Chicago woman was pulled over for a minor traffic offense around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 in the 800 block of Ridge Road and charged with driving on a suspended driver's license, without insurance and stopping improperly on the road.
