Northwestern Student Killed While Riding Bike On Campus

The 18-year-old woman was struck and killed by a cement truck on Sheridan Road Thursday afternoon.

EVANSTON, IL - An 18-year-old female Northwestern University student was riding her bicycle on campus late Thursday afternoon when she was struck and killed by a cement truck.

Police say the woman was traveling westbound on Northwestern Place around 5 p.m. when she was hit by the truck, which was headed north on Sheridan Road between Garrett Place and Library Place.

The student was found unresponsive and was taken to Evanston NorthShore University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A 38-year-old Des Plaines man was driving the cement truck. He was not cited or charged initially, but the crash remains under investigation.

Evanston police haven't released the name of the victim, as her nearest of kin has yet to be notified.
