Smoke Forces Evacuation at New Trier
Students and staff remained outside for nearly an hour on Monday while basement transformer was smoking.

All buildings on New Trier High School’s Winnetka campus were evacuated Monday around 3 p.m. when a transformer in the basement began smoking.
Local fire departments responded to the call to find the smoke levels increasing in the basement, according to the Winnetka Talk. An all-clear for students and staff to re-enter the building was given about 45 minutes after they were evacuated.
“It turned out to be a faulty electrical box in the basement,” Winnetka Fire Chief Alan Berkowsky said. “We isolated the problem, cleared the smoke and there is no other hazard in the building.”
