Summer Filmmaking Class at Actors Training Center Featuring Red Carpet Premiere at Wilmette Theatre

Wonder what it takes to turn a current event into a great film? Page to Screen is a unique program being offered this summer by Actors Training Center (ATC) for students in grades 4th-12th. Designed for the budding filmmaker, aspiring actor, creative screenwriter or anyone interested in learning the entire filmmaking process, students will be empowered in the journey from the blank page to the silver screen. Students will write the screenplay and produce the film, culminating in a public screening and red carpet premiere at the Wilmette Theatre. Page to Screen takes a holistic approach to the entire film process, providing a safe, focused environment where students are pushed and encouraged to polish their craft – whether it be directing, screenwriting, or acting, said Carole Dibo, ATC Creative Director. “Participants in this class have the advantage of learning all aspects of the process, which builds their awareness and confidence, while ensuring they give respect to professionals on the other side of the camera.”

Page to Screen brings together budding filmmakers, directors and actors to work together and produce a short film, in which they bring a current event to life. Students are encouraged to look at the world around them and find what moves them as actors, writers, and filmmakers. Previous films have tackled subjects global warming, improving relationships with parents, time travel and more. Through improv, screenwriting, and creative drama, the ensemble of students will shoot their original film under the direction of ATC’s professional instructors. Their short film will be screened at the Wilmette Theatre after Labor Day.

All aspects of life on a movie are recreated. Everyone serves a role, not just on camera but behind the scenes as well.

The course begins with students choosing a current event to write about. Students are encouraged to look at the problem from all sides, question the challenges of solving the problem, and write a solution. This begins the journey of creating a fictional screenplay, the “page” segment of the class. Once the film has been written, students take on the “screen” portion of this class, scouting locations to support the story, designing the wardrobe, casting themselves in the film, and creating a shoot schedule.

Two sessions:

4th-8th Grades: July 5th - July 15th, from 9:00am-1:00pm, $875

9th – 12th Grades: June 20th – July 1st, from 2pm-6pm, $875
