Wilmette Blotter: $25K in Jewelry Stolen, Underage Drinking and More

The following incidents occurred between May 30 and June 4, according to Wilmette police reports.

THEFT
A vintage, handmade American flag was taken from the home's porch in the 1700 block in Forest Avenue. The incident occurred overnight between May 30 and May 31 and may be linked to a series of car vandalism in the area.

An Evanston woman reported she suspected that her wallet was stolen from Five Guys Burgers in Eden's Plaza on June 4. The woman was having dinner with her sons, and noticed the item was missing the next day.

The item, a $75 Dooney and Bourke wallet, contained a driver's license, $74 in cash and several charge cards. The cards were later used to make unauthorized purchases: two $500 gift cards from Best Buy on her American Express card and four $500 gift cards on her Mastercard. The gift cards were later redeemed at a Best Buy store in Chicago.

The woman told police that her son noticed a 40-year-old man with a buzz cut reaching around her purse.

Two bicycles were taken from a home in the 400 block of Pine Manor Drive on June 3. The bikes were left unlocked while the owners attended a barbecue at a neighbor's house. Both are valued at $100 each.

GARAGE BURGLARY 
Three drills were taken from a garage in the 900 block of Columbus Street between May 30 and May 31.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Five planters were toppled, with some being damaged, at Treasure Island Grocery Store, 911 Ridge Rd., overnight between May 30 and May 31. The items are valued at $40 each. Police suspect the incident is related to a garage theft and car damages that occurred around that time.

BURGLARY

A basement window of a home in the 700 block of Laporte Avenue was damaged on June 1. The home was vacant when the alarm was activated.


RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
Roughly $25,000 in jewelry and $7,200 in cash were taken from a home in the 700 block of Laporte Avenue between May 26 and June 1. When the homeowner returned home from vacation, she found the items missing from her bedroom.

UNDERAGE DRINKING
An 18-year-old Winnetka man was arrested in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue on June 2 for underage drinking.

DRIVING ON SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 49-year-old Wilmette man was arrested in the 2400 block of Meadow Drive and charged with driving on a suspended license on June 4. Police recognized the car's license plate number as the driver headed eastbound in the 2200 block of Wilmette Avenue. The man's license had been suspended due to a drunken driving charge. 

AUTO BURGLARY
A GPS device and sunglasses were taken from a SUV parked in the 100 block of 16th Street over the weekend. The vehicle was left unlocked in the driveway.
