Wilmette Blotter: Four Homes Burglarized

Residential burglary

A window was forced open at a home in the 2200 block of Beechwood Avenue and a pillowcase and jewelry box containing $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen between 6:10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

A resident of the 700 block of Laurel Avenue reported that there were at least two people in his kitchen when he arrived home at 6 p.m. Dec. 15, though they left the house before he saw them. The kitchen window had been removed and was suspended by two cables.

A resident of the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue reported that at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 he heard six loud bangs coming from his neighbor's backyard and when he looked outside from his porch he saw a person in dark clothing run into an alley. Part of the neighbor's door had been broken.

Two rings and a bracelet valued at more than $35,000 were stolen between 5 p.m. Dec. 13 and 7:59 p.m. Dec. 15 from a home in the 2200 block of Beechwood Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry and other jewelry was left undisturbed.

Retail theft

Lucy A. Ripes, 18, of Wilmette was arrested for retail theft after she put a $32 multi-colored winter hat in her purse and left the store without paying for it at 3:29 p.m. Dec. 15 at Carson's, 3200 Lake Ave.

Burglary from a motor vehicle

A wallet containing $20, two credit cards and a debit card was stolen from an unlocked car between 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in the 100 block of 4^th Street.
