Wilmette Crime: Wannabe Car Thieves Fail To Rob Valet Service
Wilmette police reports: March 31-April 4

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity. An arrest is not an indication of guilt and a criminal charge represents merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
APPARENT WANNABE CAR THIEVES CHARGED
Hassan Syed Quadri, 21, of the 6200 block of Lawnday Avenue in Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony identity theft after police responded to a report of a teenager trying to steal a car from Michigan Shores at 911 Michigan Avenue shortly after 11:30 a.m. on April 1.

A valet told police a teen was spotted sitting in a car the valet service had parked and noticed the brake lights were being activated as if “someone was trying to start the vehicle without a key,” according to police. The valet confronted the suspect, who fled south on Michigan Avenue.
When Wilmette police arrived, they first found Quadri at 3rd and Central and took him into custody. Police said he was a suspect in a previous auto theft and credit card fraud case at Michigan Shores. Police later located the other suspect, a juvenile, who was charged with burglary to auto.

HIT-AND-RUN WITH SMOKING CAR
Adrian M. Kasperowicz, 28, of the 1500 block of Minthaven Road in Lake Forest, was arrested for DUI on April 2. Wilmette police received to a report of a hit-and-run accident on the southbound Edens at the Skokie Road exit ramp shortly before 11 a.m. One officer spotted a car driven by Kasperowicz heading east matching the description of the vehicle that had left the scene on the 2300 block of Lake Avenue.
Police said the vehicle had "heavy front end damage and smoke coming from under the hood." They stopped Kasperowicz in the 600 block of Ridge Road, where they said he failed field sobriety tests.
STOLEN JEWELRY WITH UTAH DL
A man and a woman, described as Caucasians with a Utah drivers license, bought $5582.45 worth of jewelry from the Collectors Corner at 410 Ridge Road with a fraudulent American Express credit card around 6:15 p.m on Feb. 1, a caller told police.
IDENTITY THIEF RACKS UP SPRINT BILLS
Over $8000 in bills to a fraudulent Sprint account were racked up between last September and March 30 of this year by an identity thief. The victim told police they learned of the fraudulent account once the unpaid bills had been sent to collections.
BIKE STOLEN FROM METRA
A bicycle was stolen while locked to the bike rack at the Metra station at 722 Green Bay Road, sometime on March 31 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m..
