Wilmette Man Charged in Chicago Beating

Jabar Azami, 26, has been charged with five others for allegedly beating a man in Rogers Park Friday.

A 26-year-old Wilmette man has been arrested, along with four other Chicago men, for allegedly beating a man in Rogers Park Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Jabar Azami, of the 500 block of Lawler Avenue, and three of the other accused men were charged with misdemeanor assault, for supposedly seriously injuring a 41-year-old man. Meanwhile one of the supposed offenders, 18-year-old Walter Gonzalez of the 5000 block of North Western Avenue, was charged with felony aggravated battery, according to police.

The victim was walking with his wife early Friday when they encountered the group, who asked the couple to move to a different part of the sidewalk, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez told the Sun-Times. A member of the group then punched the man, who fell to the ground, Perez added.
