Wilmette Police: Chicago Officer Fired Gun on Boat in Lake Michigan

The incident occurred near Gillson Park on Oct. 9.

A Chicago policeman who allegedly shot a weapon while boating on Lake Michigan near Wilmette earlier this month is still under investigation, TribLocal reports.

The officer had been boating near with a friend and discharged his "service weapon," according to . sent a boat to investigate the incident after hearing the shots.

"The off-duty officer and a friend were detained Oct. 9 after Wilmette police found on the boat several weapons, “hundreds of rounds of ammunition,” two coolers of beer, and a half-empty bottle of vodka," according to TribLocal.

The man remains on active duty and is under investigation by Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority.
