Wilmette Public Library Hosts Discussion of Richard Russo's 'Nobody's Fool'

Pulitzer Prize-winning author's duo of 'fools' are featured in the Library's One Book, Everybody Reads program

A discussion of Richard Russo’s Nobody’s Fool, led by a Wilmette Public Library staff librarian, will take place on May 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the Library auditorium, 1242 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette.

This event is part of the Library’s One Book, Everybody Reads program, which is featuring author Richard Russo’s novels, Nobody’s Fool and Everybody’s Fool, this spring. Nobody's Fool was published in 1993, and the sequel, Everybody's Fool, was published on May 3.

Russo is one of America's foremost authors. In Nobody’s Fool, he tells the story of Donald “Sully'' Sullivan, a hard-luck guy in the deadbeat small town of North Bath in upstate New York. With sly humor, the moving and heartfelt novel offers its readers a slice of small-time life as it depicts humanity’s follies as well as its triumphs. As he deals with the themes of luck, responsibility, forgiveness, friendship, and family, “Russo again proves himself a shrewd observer of human nature,” according to Publishers Weekly.

In Everybody's Fool, Russo returns to North Bath and the players that made Nobody’s Fool his first great success. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "Everybody's Fool is Richard Russo at his best.” Booklist noted that “Russo’s reunion with these beloved characters is genius,” and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called the book a “triumph.”

A discussion of Everybody's Fool will be held at the Library on June 22.
