Wilmette Thursday Blotter: Border's Theft, Alley Fire and Trains Graffitied
Crimes reported to the Wilmette Police between March 17 and March 22.

FRAUD
An ongoing issue was reported to authorities on March 17 at 1:12 p.m. at Wilmette Auto Care, 803 Green Bay Rd., involving a patron who hasn't paid for repairs received Nov. 15. The patron paid by a check, but his account did not have sufficient funds, according to the police report. The check was presented four times by Premier Bank and bounced each time.
DOMESTIC TROUBLE
An incident occurred on March 18 at 8:40 p.m. between a 63-year-old mother and her 34-year-old daughter at a residence in the 500 block of Skokie Boulevard. The mother refused to let her daughter drive to pick up her boyfriend in Chicago because the 34-year-old had consumed more than 10 vodka drinks that day. A verbal altercation ensued over the car keys. The daughter eventually gave up the keys, and both family members agreed to go to bed, according to the police report.
DUI
A 22-year-old Winnekta resident was stopped for traffic offenses at Sheridan Road and Elmwood Avenue. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. A breath test revealed that her blood alcohol content was .156, according to the police report.

THEFT
A Marie Murphy student reported that his black T-Mobile cell phone was stolen at school on March 1. The incident was reported on March 19 at 4:07 p.m. to authorities by the student's father, who was making an insurance claim to the cell phone provider.

A Wilmette resident reported on March 20 that the rear license plate on his car had been stolen. The incident occurred between 9 p.m. on March 19 and 2:41 a.m. March 20 while the vehicle was parked in the 800 block of Westwood Avenue.

About $8,400 worth of Rosetta Stone language CDs were taken from the Border's Books and Music store at 3232 Lake Ave. March 14 and March 21. The store manager told authorities that the glass cabinet that housed the CDs could be tampered in order to remove the items. The incident has been forwarded for further investigation, as it takes four weeks to obtain footage from the store's security cameras.

An resident in the 300 block of Sheridan Road reported on March 22 that his credit card had been stolen in October. The resident told police he was alerted to the situation when his card was recently used at a gas station in Skokie. He suspected the card was stolen by a subcontractor working in his home in early October.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 2000 block of Greenwood Avenue reported on March 19 that an unauthorized AT&T account was opened in his name between Feb. 19 and Feb. 20.

A resident in the 700 block of Leyden Lane reported on March 21 that more than $10,000 worth of unauthorized purchases were charged to his Chase Bank credit card on March 16. The man had reported a similar incident about three weeks earlier with a different Chase card.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A witness reported that three males lit a fire on the golf course at Third Street and Laurel Avenue on March 19 at 6:19 p.m. The offenders fled the area when police arrived.

A neighbor alerted a resident in the 300 block of Greenleaf Avenue that a garbage can had been set afire in the alley on March 19. Authorities were notified at 5:23 p.m. that day, and responded to the incident along with the Wilmette Fire Department. The garbage can owner had previously placed a plastic bag of leaves and tree branches into the bin. The resident said she didn’t notice anyone in the area.

Two CTA train cars were graffitied March 18 and March 21 in the 300 block of Linden Avenue. The cars were parked in the north end of the train yard. "E2L" was written on one side of a car with black, green white and pink paint, while other symbols were painted on a car's door in black. Another car was vandalized with black and white spray paint in which the word "Suzik" appeared. "Btl" and "NaKeD" were also painted on the car.

An incident occurred March 18 and March 21 at Romona Elementary in which "BROR" was spray painted on a wall facing west in the south parking lot.
ARREST
A 22-year-old Berwyn man was arrested at the corner of Lake and Laramie avenues. He was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license on March 19.
SUSPICIOUS CHARGES
A Wilmette resident in the 1500 block of Spencer Avenue reported that suspicious charges for $334.74 in merchandise were made in Canada between March 21 and March 22.
