Wilmette Woman Charged Over Injuries That Put Girl In ER: Blotter
Incidents and arrests from the Wilmette Police Department blotter for Sept. 1 to Sept. 24.

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARIES
- Someone forced open the front door of a home in the 600 block of Pine Street between 12 a.m. on Aug. 31 and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 2. Jewelry boxes were moved but nothing was reported stolen.
- Someone tried to get into a house in the 300 block of Beverly Drive between by pushing the screen away from the frame of a storm window 5 p.m. on Aug. 21 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 2 but was unable to gain entry.
- Someone stole golf clubs from a garage in the 1100 block of Mohawk Road between 2 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 3.
- Someone burglarized a home in the 800 block of Leamington Avenue between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sept. 5. The house was ransacked, with jewelry and a briefcase reported stolen.
- Someone tried to break into a home in the 900 block of Central Avenue between 10 p.m .on Sept. 5 and 10 a.m. on Sept. 6 by cutting the front window screen.
- Someone broke into a home in the 800 block of Chilton Lane between noon and 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 through a sliding glass door. The master bedroom was ransacked and a fur coat and jewelry were reported stolen.
- Someone broke into a home in the 400 block of Laurel Avenue between 8 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. on Sept. 13 after removing a storm screen and breaking a window next to the front door. The house was ransacked and two guitars and sets of car keys were reported stolen.
STOLEN VEHICLE FOUND
Around 11 a.m. on Sept. 7, police were called to the 100 block of Westmoreland Drive for a report of a suspicious vehicle, which turned out to have been reported stolen from Chicago on the afternoon of Aug. 13.

CHAIR THEFT
Someone stole 52 folding chairs from a parkway in the 2300 block of Elmwood Avenue around 11 a.m. on Sept. 7. The chars had been delivered for a block party planned for the following day.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A homeowner in the 300 block of Sheridan Road reported at 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 8 someone had damaged a window. The resident reported there had been a disturbance with a man during an earlier estate sale, and the resident believed the man may return to damage the house or property.

CONCRETE THEFT
An employee of a concrete company reported at 5 p.m. on Sept. 10 that a person described as a skinny white male in a black BMW with dealer plates had stopped in the area of Lake Avenue and Hibbard Road and stole and concrete saw from the bed of a truck doing roadwork at the location.
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked Trek bicycle between 7:20 a.m. and 4:10 p.m on Sept. 14 from the bike rack at the Metra station at 722 Green Bay Road.
PACKAGE THEFT
Between 4:30 and 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 14, someone stole two bottles of vitamins from an Amazon package that had been left in a mailbox.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car from the 2100 block of Greenwood Avenue between 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 and 7:05 a.m. on Sept. 19 after it had been left unlocked overnight with the keys inside.
ARRESTS
Anthony Lackey, 49, of the 1800 block of South 3rd Avenue in Maywood, and Saul Herrera, 31, of the 4800 block of South Paulina Avenue in Chicago, were arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 after police were called to the Walgreens at 811 Green Bay Road for a report of a retail theft that had just occurred. The shoplifters took off in a tan vehicle with front end damage after stealing four boxes of nicotine gum. A vehicle matching the description was seen getting onto the southbound Edens Expressway and pulled over. The two men were identified and also cited for drug paraphernalia found in the vehicle.
Patricia A. Schumann, 55, of the 700 block of Laurel Avenue in Wilmette, was arrested around 9:36 p.m. on Sept. 8 following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving under the influence. She admitted to drinking, smelled of booze and showed signs of impairment. She was taken into custody and refused a breath test.
Dawne C. Berkman, 47, of the 600 block of 4th Street in Wilmette, was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery after police received word from staff at the emergency room of a local hospital that a girl had been brought in by a family member after being attacked and injured by Berkman. The girl told police Berkman threw a ceramic bowl at her head, causing cuts and bruises.
