Woman Wakes Up to Find Man Going Through Her Purse in Bedroom: Police
Three men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a home burglary in Wilmette.
WILMETTE, IL — Three men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a home burglary that happened while the family was still home, according to Wilmette police.
The following men were charged with a single count each of residential burglary in the alleged incident:
- Downson Ambroise, 21, of the 700 block of Dobson Street, Evanston
- Adrian Tayloe, 25, of the 4700 block of Old Orchard Road, Skokie
- Chadane Gordon, 21, of the 5000 block of West Searle Parkway, Skokie
According to police, a woman living in the 900 block of Pontiac Road claims she was awoken at around 5:14 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, by one of the men rummaging through her purse in her second-floor bedroom. The woman screamed when she noticed the man, and she told police she wanted to alert other family members in the house about the intruders.

The man in the room, as well as the other two suspects, fled the house after the scream, the police report stated. Witnesses also told police they saw two men fleeing the home.
The family reported four laptop computers, a wallet with ID and credit cards and $295 in cash stolen. An investigation revealed that the intruders broke in to the house by removing the screen from an unlocked window.

The men eventually were apprehended after a traffic stop Wednesday, Aug. 24, in Mount Prospect. Police in that community pulled over a vehicle that had items reported stolen from the Wilmette home.
