📰 News we're reading

• Village Council To Vote On Critical Next Steps For Reopening Of Tower Road Pier (patch.com) — Winnetka's Village Council is set to vote on extending engineering work needed to eventually reopen the structurally compromised Tower Road Beach pier, which has been closed since early 2026. The assessment will guide a reconfiguration plan, with design work done in-house and construction tentatively eyed for spring 2027, pending funding in the FY2027 capital plan.

• Overhauled fields, new science labs, moved admin offices — the latest on New Trier renovations (therecordnorthshore.org) — Major renovations at New Trier's Winnetka campus are entering their final year, bringing new science labs, relocated administrative and counseling offices, and enhanced security at the busy north entrance. Northfield campus athletic upgrades, including new turf fields, a press box, and a community walking path, are also nearing completion, promising better facilities and less congestion for students and families this school year.

• Police Reports: Traffic camera removed, bicycle thefts, retail burglaries (therecordnorthshore.org) — Recent Winnetka police reports include two cases of stolen, altered checks and an unlocked bicycle theft outside the Green Bay Road McDonald's. The broader regional log also details burglaries, car thefts, scams, and retail thefts in neighboring North Shore communities, offering residents a snapshot of current crime patterns and common targets.
