The science-fiction writer bought a six-bedroom Winnetka house in July, according to the Chicago Tribune.

WINNETKA, IL — Science-fiction writer Andy Weir paid $6.8 million in July for a six-bedroom mansion in Winnetka, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.

Weir is the author of "The Martian" and "Project Hail Mary," novels that were adapted into films, and the purchase adds another property to his recent North Shore holdings.

Built in 2016, the two-story brick house has 6-1/2 bathrooms and sits on a half-acre corner lot.

Weir, 54, is a California native, but has made the North Shore his home in recent years, the Tribune reported. Though he has no ties to the Chicago area, his wife, Ashley, does, according to the report.

Property records show Weir has owned several other North Shore homes in recent years, including a seven-bedroom, 8,800-square-foot mansion in Winnetka that he purchased in 2022 for $4.42 million.

The report also said Weir previously owned a seven-bedroom, nearly 13,000-square-foot mansion in Winnetka that he bought for $4.51 million in 2023, which he sold a year later for $3.36 million, according to the Tribune.
