On this 2024 Memorial Day …

Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham honored all who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Country at the Memorial Day Silent Parade

Speech provided by Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham at our Memorial Park:

"On this 2024 Memorial Day …

I am so grateful, touched, and proud that we are all gathered to share our hearts of gratitude in remembrance as neighbors – as a community paying our respects and to give honor to all those who answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Country. Together as a community, we honor them and their memories! We owe a debt of gratitude … and must never forget our Country’s HEROES and their sacrifices for FREEDOM and for Country.

We extend our grateful hearts honoring the families and loved ones of every Fallen Hero and Servicemember. Together, we remember all those who gave their lives and didn’t make it safely home.

With the most grateful hearts – we thank every Veteran for their service! WE thank our Woodridge VFW Memorial Post 1578 – our neighbors, our friends … our Heroes from the bottom of our hearts! YOU inspire us to never forget – to put our hands over our hearts and give thanks … to gather to pay our respects. YOU continue to serve and impact the lives of so many. You are truly our Heroes!

We also thank and remember your wonderful families, who love and support you and help to make an incredible difference in the lives of other Veterans, our active military members, our Police, Fire and first responders, all of your good works with the youth in our community – including all of our amazing band members, their schools and families, our Scouts, the Knights of Columbus … and our Seniors. In the Village of Woodridge, we are forever grateful for you and your dedication in serving others. We are Woodridge Strong!

Each year, we are so blessed with this honored tradition of the VFW Memorial Day Silent Parade – we thank you for calling us together and touching our hearts in remembrance. Let us always remember and support our Veterans, our Active-Duty Military members, and our local Woodridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 1578.

On behalf of my fellow Board Members, the Village of Woodridge and myself, I thank you so very much. God bless you, our Village of Woodridge, and the United States of America. We thank all those serving our great nation with grateful Hearts".
