Alleged Grape Slip Triggers Lawsuit Against Westmont Supermarket
Shopper alleges she slipped on water and grapes at Aldi, causing her to fall violently on floor

A woman is suing a Westmont supermarket claiming she was injured when she slipped on the store’s unkempt floor.
Stephanie Freeman-Muhammad filed a lawsuit Jan. 23 in DuPage County Circuit Court against Aldi, Inc.
Freeman-Muhammad alleges she was shopping at the Aldi store located at 6415 S. Cass Ave., in Westmont on Nov. 9, 2013, when she slipped on water and grapes.

The lawsuit maintains the store was negligent by failing to inspect and clean the floor properly, by allowing the water and grapes to remain.
The store also failed to warn Freeman-Muhammad and other shoppers of the impending danger, by placing a sign or roping off the area, the complaint said.

As a result of the store’s alleged negligence, Freeman-Muhammad “fell violently” to the floor, suffering injuries to various parts of her body requiring her to spend money for medical care and treatment.
The plaintiff also claims she became “disabled” from her injuries. Freeman-Muhammad is asking for $50,000 in damages.
