Nov. 17 is the Great American Smokeout!
This day encourages smokers to take an important step toward a healthier life by planning to quit by that date. According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet more than 46 million Americans still smoke.
However, more than half of these smokers have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year. Secondhand smoke is just as deadly. Non-smokers who breathe in secondhand smoke also take in nicotine and other toxic chemicalsjust like smokers do.
