Why I'm Running for Mayor of Woodridge

Why I'm running for Mayor of Woodridge

Early Voting Starts Today!

We are now 2 weeks away from the election. I thought it might be a good time to review some of the past blog posts as to why I, and many others, believe I'm the best choice to be your next Mayor. Many people will be making their decision as to which candidate to vote for and I think it's important they educate themselves as to where each of us stand on the issues. Who will be the next leader of our community? What can we expect? Who will bring the new ideas and leadership that will be required to successfully build upon the legacy Mayor Murphy has built?

Go to our web sites, read what has been posted here, look at other newspapers which will be putting out our thoughts in upcoming editions. Hopefully the Candidate's Forum hosted by the League of Women Voters will soon be shown on Comcast Channel 6 and the Village web site. Hear our answers to questions. Find out who is talking about issues and who has real plans to address those issues. This is an important election and I urge all of you to get out and vote April 9.

I'm running for the office of Mayor of the Village of Woodridge. Following Mayor William Murphy and the legacy he is leaving will not be easy, but I believe I bring the qualities necessary to be successful in the position. I am a 10+ year resident of the Village and have a wife and four daughters ranging in age from 15 to 26. I am a Registered Representative of Sigma Financial Corporation, Member FINRA/SIPC and have worked in the financial services industry since 1991.

I have served as Chairman of the Woodridge Area Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair of the Village and Park District’s 50th/40th Anniversary Committee, and was a member of the 2006 Steering Committee for the Comprehensive Plan. I currently serve as a trustee on the Woodridge Police Pension Board.

I have also served the community by coaching in the Woodridge Park District’s Girls’ Softball Program for the past seven years and teaching Junior Achievement classes in Woodridge School District 68. I was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2009 and Outstanding Commissioner of the Year in 2012.

This experience has given me a broad perspective of our community and has allowed me to meet and interact with many of its residents. From our community leaders to our kids in the schools, this is a Village of nice people. And these people are the greatest asset Woodridge possesses.

So why am I running for Mayor of Woodridge?

I’m running because Woodridge is at an interesting point in its development. It has been led by Mayor Murphy for the last 30+ years and has grown from a small group of homes to the thriving community we have today.

The next mayor will need to work on several issues currently underway or in the process of development. The transition Woodridge faces as it moves from a growing community to a more mature phase will require a leader that can listen to residents, understand issues regarding redevelopment, maintain strong fiscal discipline, make sound choices, and use all available resources to make those decisions.

As a Financial Advisor I have learned the importance of listening to people, understanding differing points of view and setting goals. During my time on the Berwyn Development Corporation board I dealt with many different projects of many sizes, covering four large TIF districts. I am just as comfortable talking to the CEO of a company as I am to the players on my softball team. I’ve learned the importance of building consensus and realize that the best way to get something done is together. Whether working with the Board of Trustees, community groups, business owners or individuals I can assure you that I will listen to your views. I can’t guarantee that I’ll give you the answer you want, but when I come to a decision it will be what I believe is best for the entire community.

I want Woodridge to remain a strong and vibrant community, one that is always a great place to live, work and play in. I want it to be a place to raise your family, like I am doing. I want it to be a place where you will want to stay AFTER you’ve raised your family. I want it to be a place that the family you raised feels so strongly about Woodridge they want to raise THEIR family here. And I want it to be a place that, should you move on, you will be proud to say that you are from Woodridge. That’s why I’m running for Mayor.
