Catalytic Converter Thefts On Rise In Woodridge: Cops
A stolen catalytic converter can cost up to $2,000 to replace.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Police in Woodridge are warning residents to stay vigilant after a recent surge in catalytic converter thefts. In the past month, three residents reported having their catalytic converters cut from under their cars, according to police.
Catalytic converters, which are used to reduce emissions, often contain valuable metals. Police say most catalytic converters are stolen after dark. Thieves use a special cutting tool to quickly remove the part. Then, they sell the catalytic converter for roughly $200, Woodridge police say.
The cost to the victim can be up to $2,000 to replace a stolen catalytic converter. If you start your car and hear a loud engine sound that doesn't stop, there's a decent chance you've been a victim of catalytic converter theft.
