Darien Garden Club, National Award Winners

Members of the Darien Garden Club are always eager to share their gardening know-how and
promote gardening in their community. In May this year, they were thrilled to be recognized by
the parent organization, National Garden Clubs, Inc. with three First-Place Awards for their
efforts. The Club received the Hazel Johnson Award For Conservation Education. For three
years, the club has presented Spring Gardening Inspiration, a gardeners’ symposium, during
which the themes of conservation and protecting the environment are highlighted. Last year,
Brook McDonald spoke about the projects and initiatives of the Conservation Foundation.
Darien Garden Club also received the Landscape Design Award for Church Gardens for the
Butterfly Garden that was created at St. John Lutheran Church. And the club was also
recognized for its outstanding Newsletter, Darien Dirt Diggers, edited by Judi Doychak. The
club is proud of its accomplishments and welcomes new members who want to learn more and
do more in the gardening world. Our next Spring Gardening Inspiration will be March 10, 2018.
Meetings are held monthly and details can be found at www.dariengardenclub.com
