DGS Girls Cross Country 5-0 in Conference

The girls cross country team remains undefeated after topping Hinsdale South and Morton High Schools on Monday.

The following information was written by DGS Girls Cross Country Head Coach Doug Plunkett.

The girls cross country team defeated Hinsdale South and Morton Monday at Katherine Legge Memorial Park. 

The scores were DGS-19, HS-44 and DGS-15, Mor-50. That raises the DGS conference record to 5-0 with one dual meet remaining against Proviso East next Monday.

DGS freshman Amanda Thate (also our Patch athlete of the week!), won the 3-mile race in 18:03 on a wet, muddy course. Hinsdale South freshman Sarah Leganski was runner-up in 18:48.  Downers South then had the next six finishers:

  • Katie Strelau (3rd-19:10)
  • Amy Rotunno (4th -19:21)
  • Jacquelyn Thate (5th-19:24)
  • Katrina Friedrich (6th-19:34)
  • Maddie Cahill (7th-19:34)
  • Cara Wicklein (8th-19:38)

The DGS varsity team will compete next on Saturday at the Peoria Central Invitational.

Downers Grove South also swept the JV and Frosh-Soph races, defeating both Hinsdale South and Morton by identical 15-50 scores.  Downers Grove South's Jordan Baylark-Rasul won the JV race in a time of 19:51.  DGS freshman Abby Kargol won the Frosh-Soph race in 19:48. The DGS JV and F/S teams will compete next on Saturday at the Niles West Invitational.
