District 58 Honors Select 58 Award Recipients

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 hosted its annual Select 58 Awards Banquet on Wednesday, May 6 at Herrick Middle School.

This special night recognized 58 eighth graders – 29 from Herrick and 29 from O’Neill – for their outstanding service to both their school and community. The Education Foundation of Downers Grove School District 58 sponsored the event.

The Select 58 students and their guests enjoyed entertainment by the Downers Grove North Chamber Choir and dinner provided by Aramark. They also listened to inspirational speeches by former Select 58 students Nicole O’Toole (O’Neill alumna and current St. Mary’s College student) and Lauren Taylor (Herrick alumna and current Downers Grove North student).

District 58 and the Education Foundation thank the Downers Grove North Chamber Choir, Aramark, Nicole O’Toole and Lauren Taylor for their excellent contributions. They also thank the other contributors who helped make this year’s Select 58 event successful: Cathy Oriatti made the beautiful Select 58 cake; Holy Cow Sports provided the sweatshirts; Miles Boone Photography took professional photographs; Phillip’s Flowers provided carnations; Blooming Color provided plaques; and Tana Williams provided flower vases.

This year’s Select 58 judges included Bruce Swanson, Laura Taylor, Stephan Upshaw, Melissa Nuttall, Caroline Neveril and Jill Donaldson. The planning committee included Foundation directors Megan Hewitt and Laura Taylor and Herrick Secretary Ann Russ, with assistance from Herrick Principal Matt Neustadt, O’Neill Principal Matt Durbala and O’Neill Secretary Cathi Loris.
